Maudsley treatment model for anorexia nervosa in adults

‘When your healthy self is strong enough to deal with all that comes your way in life, your eating disorder self will no longer be useful or necessary.’

FAQs

  • Room for Two offers two evidence-based treatment options of eating disorders. These are CBT-E (Enhanced CBT) and MANTRA. MANTRA is a specific evidence-based treatment for Anorexia Nervosa. It aims to understand how someone might have become more vulnerable to developing Anorexia Nervosa and then aims to unpick how it has managed to flourish in the ‘here and now’. It aims to address the cognitive, emotional, relational and biological factors which tend to maintain Anorexia Nervosa and treating each with the aim to become ‘unstuck’ and find other ways of coping. This might include initial motivation to change and recovery, addressing any interpersonal difficulties, developing different ways of thinking, learning new ways of managing relationships and emotions and lastly developing a sense of identity away from Anorexia. The therapist and the client will together determine which factors are causing the Anorexia to flourish and which therefore need to be worked on. MANTRA aims to provide knowledge, skills and understanding to move away from using Anorexia as a means of coping.

  • MANTRA is an evidence-based therapy for the treatment of Anorexia Nervosa.

  • MANTRA therapy is a longer term psychotherapy due to the nature of the serious mental health difficulty it is treating. The evidence base for MANTRA recommends between 20-35 sessions.

If engaging in MANTRA Therapy with us you would need to be seen face to face. In addition, we would require you to undergo routine physical health checks with your GP or a private provider.
